COMPLIANCE WITH CHILD ABUSE REPORTING LAWS

It is the official policy of the Family Promise of Pierce County that all staff and volunteers are required to report any suspected child abuse or neglect to Child Protective Services (CPS).

Definition of Child Abuse and Neglect:

“Child abuse or neglect” shall mean the injury, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child by any person under circumstances which indicate that the child’s health, welfare, and safety are harmed thereby.”

In compliance with mandatory reporting requirements, Family Promise of Pierce County will immediately report all instances of suspected child abuse or neglect by telephone to CPS.

Such report shall contain the following information:

The name, address and age of the child

The name and address of the child’s parent, step-parents, guardians, or other persons having custody of the child.

The nature and extent of the injuries, if any

The nature and extent of the neglect, if any

The nature and extent of the sexual abuse, if any

Any evidence of previous injuries, including their nature and extent, and

Any other information which may be helpful in establishing the cause of the child’s death, injury, or injuries and the identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators.

In turn, CPS shall contact Family Promise of Pierce County of case status within the prescribed time frame following the date of report to CPS.
