General Volunteer Opportunities 🙋

General Volunteer

Purpose: A little of everything, able to tackle almost anything needed. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Family Activity Planner

Purpose: Plans and supervises structured, engaging activities (crafts, games, etc.) for children and parents at shelter sites.

Commitment: 2-3 hours/week. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Inventory and Supply Organizer

Purpose: Organizes, sorts, and tracks in-kind donations and supplies in storage areas at the main office or shelter sites.

Commitment: 2 hours/week or as needed. **Non-Licensed Role**.

“Move-In Day” Helper

Purpose: Assists families relocating to permanent housing with physical tasks like light lifting, transporting, and setting up household goods.

Commitment: Event-based (as scheduled). **Non-Licensed Role**.

Special Event Assistant

Purpose: Provides general support for fundraising and community events, including setup, registration, and cleanup.

Commitment: Event-based (as scheduled). **Non-Licensed Role**.

Specialized Volunteer Opportunities 🌟
Housing Resource Locator

Purpose: Supports Intensive Case Management by identifying and maintaining a current, verified database of affordable housing opportunities.

Commitment: 6-8 hours/month. **Non-Licensed Role**.

E-Learning and Technology Mentor

Purpose: Supports Leveraging Technology by providing one-on-one instruction to adult clients, enhancing their digital literacy for housing/job applications.

Commitment: 4 hours/week. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Regional Administrative Support Liaison

Purpose: Ensures smooth organizational function across the expanded regional area by providing centralized administrative support and data entry.

Commitment: 8-10 hours/week. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Grant Writing and Research Assistant

Purpose: Supports Fundraising by securing critical, non-operational funding through researching and drafting grant proposals.

Commitment: 10 hours/month. **Non-Licensed Role**.

In-Kind Donation Procurement Specialist

Purpose: Supports Client Logistics by securing essential non-monetary items (in-kind donations) required to support families in shelter and upon rehousing.

Commitment: Event-based, avg. 10-12 hours/month. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Health and Wellness Documentation Assistant

Purpose: Organizes documentation and inputs non-sensitive scheduling data to facilitate the work of licensed medical and mental health professionals.

Commitment: 4 hours/week. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Clinical Resource Networker

Purpose: Expands the clinical referral network by researching and verifying external licensed providers (medical, dental, therapeutic) accepting low-cost insurance across the five counties.

Commitment: 8 hours/month. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Trauma-Informed Children’s Activity Facilitator

Purpose: Provides safe, predictable, and engaging activities for children in shelter spaces, allowing parents to attend case management meetings.

Commitment: 3 hours/week. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Regional Supply and Logistics Driver

Purpose: Ensures the safe and timely transport of essential supplies and equipment between the five county sites.

Commitment: 8 hours/month. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Policy and Compliance Research Assistant

Purpose: Supports Organizational Governance by researching local/state regulations relevant to housing and non-profit operations across the region.

Commitment: 5-7 hours/month. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Licensed / VRP Provider Roles 🩺

These roles require an active Washington State license. Malpractice coverage is available via FPOPS’s WA Volunteer and Retired Providers (VRP) Program site status.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (VRP Provider)

Purpose: Provides short-term, trauma-informed therapeutic support and assessment to adult and child clients within VRP guidelines.

Commitment: 4-6 hours/month. **Licensed/Clinical Role**.

Licensed Registered Nurse (VRP Provider)

Purpose: Conducts basic health assessments, offers essential health education, and coordinates preventative care (non-invasive care covered by VRP).

Commitment: 6 hours/month. **Licensed/Clinical Role**.

Licensed Dental Hygienist/Dentist (VRP Provider)

Purpose: Provides non-invasive oral health screenings, examinations, and oral hygiene instruction (covered by VRP dental guidelines).

Commitment: 4 hours/month. **Licensed/Clinical Role**.

Program Childcare and Respite Volunteer

Purpose: Provides safe, stable, and trauma-informed respite care for children, enabling parents to attend essential meetings.

Commitment: 2-4 hours/week. **Non-Licensed Role**.

Leadership / Governance Roles 🏛️

These roles require significant professional experience and a commitment to advisory or oversight duties. Perfect for high-level civic or corporate leaders.

County Board Member (Regional Governance/Advisory)

Purpose: Serves as the dedicated representative on the Board of Directors for a county (Thurston, Kitsap, King, Pierce, or Mason), advising FPOPS leadership on local resources, needs, and policy.

Commitment: 10 hours/month. **Governance/Leadership Role**.

Fundraising Committee Member

Purpose: Provides high-level strategic guidance and planning for annual fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and major gift strategy.

Commitment: 4 hours/month. **Governance/Leadership Role**.

Advisory Council Member

Purpose: Offers expert advice (legal, HR, finance, etc.) to the Executive Director and Board of Directors on specific operational challenges or policy matters.

Commitment: Quarterly meetings (2 hours each). **Governance/Leadership Role**.

Volunteer Team Lead

Purpose: Takes responsibility for coordinating and leading small, short-term groups of General Volunteers for projects like facility maintenance or large supply drives.

Commitment: Project-based, avg. 6-8 hours/month. **Leadership/Coordination Role**.
