Family Promise of Puget Sound

1. Understanding Your VAWA Rights

Family Promise of Puget Sound is committed to protecting your safety and housing rights. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), reauthorized in 2013, provides important basic protections and rights for individuals and families who are applying for or receiving housing and rental assistance.

These protections are in place to help ensure that survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking can access and maintain safe housing without discrimination or fear of losing their assistance because of the abuse they have experienced.

2. Important Documents You Have Received

As part of your application to and participation in Family Promise of Puget Sound programs, you have been provided with, and we ask you to review, two important federal documents from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):

1. “Notice of Occupancy Rights under the Violence Against Women Act” (HUD Form 5380) – located: https://www.hud.gov/hud-partners/fair-housing-vawa

2. “Certification of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, or Stalking” (HUD Form 5382) – located: https://www.hud.gov/sites/dfiles/Housing/documents/VAWA_Form_5382_Reclearance_102022.docx

These documents explain your specific rights and the process for certifying your status if you are a survivor.
